[ARCHIVED] Ward D Ash Tree Removals Begin After Labor Day – Ward D Residents: Action Needed by Sept. 1 to Save

The City of Watertown will begin removing ash trees from public property in Ward D—including boulevards, parks, and other city-owned areas—starting after Labor Day. Ward D is where Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was first discovered.

The 2025 treatment window is now closed. If your boulevard ash tree hasn’t been treated and you live in Ward D, it will be removed unless you request a treatment extension by September 1.

Who can request an extension?
ONLY residents that live in Ward D may request a one-year extension if they plan to treat their boulevard tree during the next effective treatment window of May–July 2026. To request an extension, complete the form at http://www.watertownsd.us/EABextension.

If you live in Ward D, have not yet had a licensed arborist treat your boulevard tree, and do not request an extension by Sept. 1, the boulevard ash tree will be removed.

It is important to note: Homeowners are responsible for the cost of treatment for boulevard ash trees. Boulevard trees are typically located between the sidewalk and the street. Not sure if it’s a boulevard tree? Call the Forestry Division at (605) 753-3688 to confirm.

Thank you for helping manage the spread of EAB and protect Watertown’s public trees.
