[ARCHIVED] Residential Burglary w/ Arrest

Shortly after 12:30am, Wednesday morning the Watertown Police Department received a 911 call advising that someone had entered an occupied house and committed a burglary in the 700 block of 2nd Street SE.

Property was stolen from the residence. Officers responded and detained a male subject who was found in the area. Through investigation it was determined that this individual was one of the persons suspected of being involved. He was identified as Joshua G. Dawson, 27, of Watertown.

Mr. Dawson was subsequently arrested and transported to the Codington County Jail where he was charged with 1st Degree Burglary and Grand Theft. He is being held on a $3000.00 cash only bond. 1st Degree Burglary is a Class 2 felony punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison and up to a $50,000.00 fine. Grand theft is a Class 6 felony punishable by a maximum of 2 years in prison and up to a $4,000.00 fine.

During the investigation Mr. Casey Cotton, 21, of Watertown, was identified as an additional suspect in the burglary and theft. He was subsequently arrested for the above offenses. He is currently being detained at the Codington County Detention Center on a $10,000.00 cash only bond.

The investigation is on-going by the Watertown Police Department.
