[ARCHIVED] WFR Responds to a Minivan vs Tractor Accident on West Hwy 212

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a minivan vs tractor accident on West Highway 212, approximately 10 miles west of Watertown.

Both vehicles were westbound at the time of the collision. Each vehicle had single, lone occupants. Both drivers were transported from the scene. The driver of the mini van was restrained and that vehicle's air bags deployed. It is not known if the tractor operator was restrained at the time of the accident.

After the initial collision, the tractor ended up about 100 feet from the original point of contact in a nearby field. The mini van remained in the westbound lane on Hwy 212. Both vehicles were leaking various fluids. Watertown Fire Rescue responded with 2 ambulances and a rescue truck with five personnel and were on the scene for approximately 1.5 hours assisting with the cleanup.

There are many different entities involved when an accident like this occurs, including the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Codington County Sheriff's Department, the Watertown Police Department, Emergency Management, tow truck operators and Watertown Fire Rescue.
