[ARCHIVED] WFR responds to a mini van vs. tractor accident on west Hwy 212

Car vs tractor

At approximately 8:00 pm Tuesday, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a mini van vs tractor accident on Highway 212, approximately 10 miles west of Watertown. Both vehicles were westbound at the time of the collision. Each vehicle had single, lone occupants. Both patients were transported from the scene. The driver of the mini van was restrained, and that vehicle's air bags deployed. It is not known if the tractor operator was restrained at the time of the accident. After the initial collision, the tractor ended up about 100 feet from the original point of contact in a nearby field. The mini van remained in the westbound lane on Hwy 212. Both vehicles were leaking various fluids. Watertown Fire Rescue responded with 2 ambulances and a rescue truck, including 5 personnel. Watertown Fire Rescue was on scene for approximately 1.5 hours assisting with the cleanup. Watertown Fire Rescue would like to remind you to please slow down if you come upon an accident. This is obviously a safety issue. There are many different entities involved when an accident like this occurs, including the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Codington County Sheriff's Department, often times the Watertown Police Department, Emergency Management, tow truck operators, and Watertown Fire Rescue. We sincerely thank you for allowing us to do our job as safely as possible. Also, please pull to the right if you see lights or hear sirens while driving. Thank you, Watertown Fire Rescue.
