[ARCHIVED] Residential and Vehicle Burglaries

Since June 2015, Watertown Police Department has taken over 30 reports of motor vehicle burglaries in the Watertown area. The suspects are entering unsecured vehicles in the attempt to steal anything of value.

In July 2015, Watertown Police Department identified multiple juvenile suspects. The juveniles were arrested and later released to the custody of their parents or guardians.

On August 12th, 2015, Watertown Police Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity occurring in the 700 block of South Lake Drive. The suspect(s) were attempting to gain entry into a vehicle and a garage. Upon investigation, multiple juvenile suspects were identified and arrests were made. Additional arrests are pending.

Criminal Entry of a Motor Vehicle is the entry of a motor vehicle without force. It a Class 1 misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail and a $2000.00 fine.

If force is used to enter the vehicle it is Aggravated Criminal Entry of a Motor Vehicle which is a Class 6 felony punishable by up to two years in the State Penitentiary and a $4000.00 fine.

The Watertown Police Department is requesting that if you observe suspicious activity to not approach the individual (s); instead try to get a detailed description of the person (s), the vehicle they may be driving and direction of travel when last witnessed.

The Watertown Police Department wants to thank the citizens of Watertown and the surrounding areas for their continued support in reporting suspicious activity. We would also like to remind everyone to lock their vehicles and remove or hide from view any valuables such as purses, wallets, and cash.
