[ARCHIVED] WFR Responds to Baler Fires

WFR responds to two separate baler fires on Monday July 13th.

WFR responded to the area of 466th Ave and 170th St, NE of Kranzburg at 1649. Upon arrival personnel found a New Holland round baler engulfed. The operator had just emptied the baler and noticed smoke. The operator disconnected the tractor from the baler and moved to a safe area. WFR personnel assisted by the Goodwin Fire Department used brush rigs and an engine to extinguish the baler. The baler was a total loss.

WFR personnel responded to a second baler fire at 611 21st St SW at 1944. Upon arrival personnel found a New Holland round baler fully engulfed. The operator had noticed smoke coming from the baler, emptied the baler, moved it to a safe area and disconnected the tractor. WFR used a brush rig and an engine to extinguish the baler and a small area around the baler. The baler was a total loss.

The cause of both fires is under investigation but potential cause is from a hot bearing.
