[ARCHIVED] Sunchase Fire

On 8-6-13 at approximately 2222hrs the Watertown Police Department along with the Watertown Fire Rescue were dispatched to Sunchase apartments for a report of smoke coming from the building. Sunchase apartments are an independent living facility for elderly people. The complex has 41 apartments and is currently home for 43 residents. A majority of the residents left with family while a few have been housed at a local motel until family could arrive.

Upon arrival smoke and flames were observed coming from the south side of the facility. Watertown police along with Watertown Fire Rescue coordinated a search of the facility and all residents were located and accounted for. No residents or 1st responders were injured during the events.

The state fire marshal was contacted and will be coming to the facility to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted by Henry, Florence, and Castlewood fire departments. The Codington County Search and Rescue along with the Salvation Army provided assistance as well.
