Watertown Fire Rescue personnel battled a grass fire for approximately 4 hours today at 17248 461st Ave in Watertown. The fire was fed by high winds. Personnel found a fire that had burned out of a burn pit and rapidly spread to a near by tree belt. Watertown Fire Rescue would like to remind land owners that they are responsible for their burn pits 24 hours a day. High winds can reignite embers in a burn pit and cause it to start back on fire. Please be vigilant in making sure your burn pit is completely surrounded by nonburnable material. During the burn ban landowner can be held responsible for cost associated with putting out fires that get out of control.
