At the Monday, April 6th City Council Working Session there was some great discussion between residents, the Council, and city staff. You can watch the working session from last night at the city’s website www.watertownsd.us by clicking on “Watch City Council Meetings”. This ordinance is still a work in progress, but is nearing completion.
The WPD is urging you to take time to read the proposed city ordinance revisions and make your comments or concerns known. Not by commenting on this post but by contacting a City Councilperson, the Mayor, the City Building Official Ken Bucholz, or the Chief of Police. If you own a camper, a boat, an enclosed trailer, a utility trailer, snowmobiles, jet skis, an ATV, and other items similar in nature, then you need to read this proposed ordinance revision, be informed, and voice your thoughts/concerns.
The ordinance, as proposed, will prohibit on-street parking of these types of vehicles unless engaged in loading or unloading. It will also prohibit on-street and off street residential parking of buses, commercial vehicles, commercial trailers, and semi-tractor trailers. If you have any questions or concerns you are urged to attend the April 20th Council Working Session at 5:30 PM at City Hall. This is also tentatively set to go to the Council Meeting that night to seek approval at 6:30 PM. You can review the proposed ordinance by clicking on the link below. The last page of this document shows a chart that reflects what is currently allowed by the current ordinance and what is proposed to be allowed.
These changes are being driven by complaints to City Hall. We all realize that this is an outdoor recreational community so we need to work together to come up with a solution that the majority of us can live with.
Thank you for staying positive and being involved.
