On November 24, 2025, at approximately 9:52 AM, the Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, Codington County Emergency Management, and Codington County Search and Rescue responded to the 200 block of Challenger Way Southeast for a report of a vehicle that had entered a pond and become fully submerged.
At approximately 10:47 AM, the driver, later identified as Brianna Mahaffy, 41, of Watertown, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Brianna passed away later that evening as a result of the incident.
