WFR responded to a single engine airplane crash at the airport 1713. It was reported that the plane had crashed into the fence along Highway 20 but it was actually the fence behind the the Fighter Jet displayed at the entrance into the airport property. The plane was own by Lake Area Technical College. The two people in the airplane were able to get out of the plane on their own and were not injured. WFR ambulance checked both people out who refused transport. There was a small fuel spill that WFR controlled as best as possible and all the proper agencies were notified. The plane had just taken off and experienced engine failure prior to setting back down in the grass area. WFR responded with 2 ARFF ( Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting ) trucks, 1 Engine, 2 Ambulances and a Command truck. WPD also responded along with Watertown Regional Airport, Codington County Emergency Management. Units were on scene for approximately 2 hours. BC McElhany.
