On December 11th, 2014, Watertown Police Department responded to a report of a home invasion in the 300 block of 7th Ave SW, Watertown, SD. The suspect entered the residence and assaulted a male victim with a firearm. No shots were fired but a person sustained non-life threatening injuries during the altercation.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, the suspect, Mr. Zachary Stangeland of Estelline, SD, was arrested for 1st Degree Robbery, 1st Degree Burglary, and Aggravated Assault. Stangeland is being held on a $25,000 bond at the Codington County Detention Center.
1st Degree Robbery and 1st Degree Burglary are both Class 2 Felonies which carry a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment in the State Penitentiary and a $50,000 fine. Aggravated Assault is a Class 3 Felony which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment in the State Penitentiary and a $30,000 fine.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.
