The Watertown Police Department has received reports on multiple phone scams targeting Watertown residents.

Scam #1:
A person claiming to be a representative of Publisher’s Clearing House advises the caller that they have won a significant amount of money. In order to claim the prize, they must send a certain amount of money to pay for the taxes, fees, etc. THIS IS A SCAM. Publisher’s Clearing House does not charge any amount to receive their prizes.

Scam #2:
A person claiming to be a Law Enforcement Officer advises the caller that they are suspects in a check fraud case. The impersonator claims they have search warrants for their residence and will be coming to arrest them. The caller can prevent any arrest by paying a certain amount and any charges will be dropped. THIS IS A SCAM. Do not give out any personal information and disconnect the call.

To protect yourself from becoming a victim of a scam, do not give out any personal information over the phone if you are not the one that initiated the call. If you feel you may be a victim of a scam, contact your local law enforcement agency.
