At approximately 10 a.m. on July 6th, Watertown Fire Rescue (WFR) responded with 1 Engine and 1 ambulance to the intersection of 33rd Street SW and Highway 212 for a Two Vehicle Accident. Codington County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Deputies and South Dakota Highway Patrol (SDHP) Officers were on scene prior to WFR and were providing traffic control for the scene. On scene, crews found quite an extensive debris field from the wreckage. One vehicle came to rest in the west bound passing lane, and the other came to rest on the east bound side of the median. One driver related that she was wearing her seat belt, and noted to crews that she did not need an ambulance. One driver was assessed, treated, and transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital for injuries; this individual was not wearing their seatbelt. Engine crews were able to clean up the debris and fluids from the wreckage in about 20 minutes. Also responding to this accident was the Watertown Police Department and Performance Towing.
