On May 20, 2023 at approximately 3:45pm, WFR was called to a grass fire at 45477 167th Street. Upon arrival, Brush 2, Brush 3, and Tender 1 were used to put out a controlled burn that had become uncontrolled. The controlled burn was properly called in and was a large tree pile. The wind blew some embers to the east and started some pastureland on fire. The grass fire was quickly extinguished and WFR cleared the scene leaving the owner to watch the original burn pile to make sure it stays controlled.
WFR had two brush trucks and a water tender along with three firefighters on scene. The burned glass was less than one acre and took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to get put out.
WFR would like to take this time to remind everyone to call the dispatch center at 605-882-6210 when planning a controlled burn.
