[ARCHIVED] WFR Responds to large bale fire

Large Bale Fire

Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a large bale fire Sunday June 26, 2022, at 44440 168th Street just before 6:45am. Once on scene crews found a large hay storage lot with approximately 800 bales burning. The bales appeared to have start on fire sometime overnight and due to high winds had progressed to all the grass bales in the lot. Due to the heat and progression of the fire, fire crews and the landowner agreed that the best course of action is to turn this fire into a controlled burn. The bales are expected to burn for several days and with current wind conditions residents of Watertown may experience a light haze or smell of burning vegetation. Watertown Fire Rescue was assisted my Henry Fire Department.
