Watertown Regional Landfill

Spring Yard Waste Drop-off Site

April 5th through April 16th 2022

The Watertown Regional Landfill will operate the Yard Waste Drop-off Site this spring.   The site will be open to receive residential yard waste from Tuesday, April 5th through Saturday, April 16th 2022.   The site is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The site is closed Sunday and Monday.

The 4th Avenue site is open between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.  Watertown residents may use this site free of charge for disposal of leaves, grass, garden vegetation, bushes, and branches.   Tree limbs up to 6 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length are also accepted. The branches must be placed on the ground in the appropriate area.  Disposal will only be permitted during the hours of operation on days that the site is staffed.  The Site is located east of Municipal Utilities at the 4th Ave. S.W. Bridge.

At the site, residents will dump their yard waste out of their containers or bags into dumpsters provided by the city.  Residents using their 95-gallon yard waste containers will unload them from their vehicle and will remain socially distanced from the Landfill staff.  The Landfill staff will then dump the 95 gallon yard waste containers using a rear-load or automated side-load truck.  Only loads containing yard waste in bags or containers will be accepted at the Yard Waste Drop-off Site.  Loose yard waste loads that require shoveling are required to unload at the Landfill.

During this time, the Landfill also accepts yard waste and branches free of charge from Watertown residents.  The Watertown Landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM through 4:00 PM.

Free disposal privileges are for Watertown residents only.   Commercial or contractor loads will be charged the appropriate tipping fee for the incoming load.  There is no charge for residential yard waste and branches brought to the Landfill if the resident brings a current Watertown Municipal Utility bill.   Those people that do not have a current Watertown Municipal Utility bill will be charged the appropriate tipping fee.

All vehicles hauling solid waste to the Landfill or the yard waste drop-off site are required to be adequately secured or covered to prevent any scattering of solid waste.  Entering the Landfill with an uncovered load will result in a charge of twice the normal tipping fee for the incoming load.

General information regarding the Landfill including location, hours of operation, container repair, and rates is located on the City’s website at www.watertownsd.us.
