Grass Fire consumes nearly 100 acres before firefighters contain. Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a large grass fire yesterday afternoon north of Lake Kampeska. Both firefighters from Watertown and Florence arrived to fight the blaze. The fire was started by a combine and then spread quickly due to the wind. When firefighters arrived the fire had spread to numerous locations including a standing corn field, a pasture, and shelter belt. Firefighters gained control of the fire with help from a local man along with his tractor and disc. Firefighters spent the rest of the evening mopping up hot spots and taking precautions to make sure embers couldn’t reach unburned vegetation. The scene was released to the land owner for constant observation.
