Recycle Update & The Top 10

The week of Monday, November 29, 2021 Recycle Route A is collected.  Recycle Route A is north of 3rd Ave N and all of Lake Kampeska and Derby Downs.  For Single Stream recycling co-mingle all recycle materials in the tan container for collection every other week. If you need a second recycling container, please go to our website to request one.   The City of Watertown will deliver an additional Tan 95 gallon Single Stream recycling container at no charge.

Please place your collection containers out the night before your collection day to avoid missing the truck.  Collection routes begin at 5:00 AM, and there is no set time when they will cover a certain area of town.  Trucks are not rerouted to pick up containers that are put out late.  Please do not set out your recycle container until it is full.  All containers placed on the parkway or boulevard on the day of collection shall be removed on the same day following collection.

Please remember that face masks, plastic gloves, and medical tubing cannot be put in the recycling container.

Remember-Never include glass in the recycle container.   Glass is not recycled and causes injuries on the sort line.

REMOVE & DISCARD ALL LIDS.  Plastic bottles with lids attached do not collapse and take up extra volume in the recycling.  All the lids must be manually removed at the recycle facility which is not cost effective.

Here is Keep America Beautiful’s List of the TOP 10 THINGS TO RECYCLE IN YOUR HOME:

  1. Paper – White or light colored and envelopes without plastic windows.
  2. Empty Tissue Boxes with any plastic windows removed.
  3. Magazines and Newspapers.
  4. Shampoo Bottles as well as other plastic bottles with the lids removed.
  5. Clean Cardboard Boxes without oil stains or food residue.
  6. Empty Paper Towel and Toilet Paper Rolls.
  7. Chipboard such as food boxes and twelve pack and case boxes.
  8. Metal Food Cans.  Metal is continuously recyclable!
  9. Milk Jugs and other Jugs that did not contain oil and petroleum products.
  10. Aluminum Cans.  Aluminum is also continuously recyclable!
