[ARCHIVED] The City of Watertown Celebrates National Public Works Week May 18 to 24

NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK Facebook Cover

The City of Watertown is proud to celebrate National Public Works Week, from Sunday, May 18, through Friday, May 24, 2025. This annual observance, supported by the American Public Works Association since 1960, highlights the vital role public works professionals play in our community.

The City of Watertown’s Public Works Department includes six divisions: Airport, Community Development Engineering, Solid Waste, Streets, and Wastewater. Together, nearly 70 full-time and part-time staff work tirelessly to keep our city running smoothly and efficiently.

Join us in recognizing and appreciating the hard work and dedication of our Public Works team.

Events Schedule:

Coloring Contest
The City of Watertown invites youth to participate in a Public Works-themed coloring contest from Thursday, May 15 through Monday, May 26. Coloring sheets are available below.
Coloring Sheets: 7 & Younger: Click here!; 8 & Older: Click here!

Submissions are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 26 and can be emailed to lmoore@watertownsd.us, mailed to City Hall (Attn: Laura M.), or dropped off in person upstairs at City Hall, 23 2nd Street NE.

Entries will be posted on the City’s Facebook page and separated into two age groups: 7 & under, and 8 & older. The entry with the most likes in each group will win a prize pack—thanks to the City Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department. Winners will be announced on the City website and Facebook page.

Touch A Truck
Join us for Touch A Truck on Saturday, May 17, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Watertown Regional Airport (550 Airport Drive). This free event gives families a chance to explore public works vehicles, emergency equipment, and more.

Free construction hats will be available for kids (while supplies last), and foam building blocks from the Watertown Regional Library will offer a creative play space. Lunch is available for purchase at Danger Von Dempsey’s, located on-site.
