On May 21, 2021 at 11:30 am, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the intersection of 1st Ave and 5th St NE for a vehicle on fire in the roadway. A vehicle that was stopped at the intersection in the east bound right turn lane, caught fire. Engine 4 and Medic 5 responded to the situation. Watertown Police Department had traffic stopped for the responding fire crew. One person was in the vehicle at the time of the incident and was able to free herself without any injuries. Flames were coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle upon arrival. Engine 4 pulled one handline and extinguished the fire. Traffic on 1st Ave between 4th and 5th street was shut down for about one hour for the fire to be extinguished and the car and debris to be removed from the roadway.
