[ARCHIVED] Watertown Fire Rescue Responds to Grass Fire

Kriese Fire

On April 7th, 2025 at 3:42pm, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the area of 17083 445th Ave for a grass fire.  This location is approximately three miles west of Lake Kampeska.  A property owner was doing a controlled burn of a conservation food plot when the fire ignited on the other side of their mowed control lines.  The fire crossed onto U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service property at the Swan Waterfowl Production Area where it was contained by WFR personnel.  Favorable winds and the adjacent body of water made for a quick extinguishment for WFR responding units.  The total area of private and public land burned was 1.6 acres with only approximately 1/3 acre of FWS land burned.  Watertown Fire Rescue responded with two brush trucks and a water tender to handle the blaze and were on scene for less than one hour.
