On 10/18/20 at 3:29 PM, the Watertown Police Department and Watertown Fire Rescue were responded to the intersection of 4th Avenue SW and 10th Street SW for a two vehicle crash.

On 10/18/20 at 3:29 PM, the Watertown Police Department and Watertown Fire Rescue were responded to the intersection of 4th Avenue SW and 10th Street SW for a two vehicle crash.

During the investigation, officers discovered a 2003 Dodge Durango operated by a 16year-old female was facing southbound on 10th Street SW waiting to make a left turn onto 4th Avenue SW.  The driver of the Dodge advised the light turned yellow, and she began making the left turn.

A 2008 Ford Escape operated by a 14-year-old female was traveling northbound on 10th Street SW.  The traffic light for northbound and southbound traffic turned red, and the Escape entered the intersection, colliding with the left turning Dodge.

A 19-year-old passenger in the Dodge received non-life-threatening injuries due to the crash and was transported by ambulance to Prairie Lakes Hospital.  The 14-year-old driver of the Ford was evaluated by Watertown Fire Rescue and released on scene.

The 14-year-old female driver was cited for failure to obey traffic signal SDCL 32-2810.

Drivers: 14-year-old female from Lake Norden, SD; 16-year-old female from South Shore, SD 

Charges: 14-year-old female – Failure to obey traffic signal – SDCL 32-28-10

Type of Injuries/Property Loss:  19-year-old female – Non-life threatening injuries
