FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Every October, the Watertown Street Division asks contractors to discontinue digging in city streets due to the seasonal closure of the asphalt hot mix plant.
Starting Oct. 23rd, 2020 through May 1st, 2021, only emergency situations (such as water service/main breaks) or approved projects, are contractors allowed to dig in city streets. It will be the contractors’ full responsibility to maintain, daily, any trench dug after Oct. 23rd, 2020 until the following season when it’s able to be properly repaired.
The Street Superintendent may require the contractor to patch the trench with concrete (depending on the roadway in which it exists) to create a temporary hard surface until it can be properly repaired in the spring of the year.
As a reminder, any digging in city streets requires a permit through the Watertown Engineering Division (605) 882-6200 and a phone call to the Watertown Street Division (605) 882-6207.
If you have any questions, please contact the Watertown Street Division.
Sincerely,
Rob Beynon
Street Superintendent
