[ARCHIVED] 2020 Chip/Fog Seal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Watertown Street Division will begin the annual street chip/fog seal program on Wednesday, August 19th, 2020 in various locations around town (see attached map).

2020 Chip/Fog Seal Map

The work will involve sweeping the surface then applying a layer of emulsified asphalt, followed by rock chips.  Traffic will be allowed to use the roadway immediately after the chips have been placed.  24-48 hours later the loose chips will be swept up and a fog seal will be applied over the remaining chips.  Traffic will not be allowed on the fog sealed roadway until it cures, which could be up to 3 hours after placement.  The contractor will have signage and flaggers in place to direct traffic during this time.

Residences and businesses will remain accessible most of the time (except during the placement and curing of the fog seal).  As with any road construction project, motorists should exercise caution observing all workers, traffic control devices, flaggers, & pilot vehicles in and around the construction areas.

If you have any questions, please contact the Watertown Street Division at 882-6207.

Thank You,

Rob Beynon

Street Superintendent
