On 05-21-2020 at 11:17AM, the Watertown Police Department and Watertown Fire Rescue were dispatched to the 1700 block of 9th Avenue SW for a two vehicle crash in which a 2017 Kia Niro, driven by a 16-year-old male of Watertown, was traveling eastbound on 9th Avenue SW.  The Kia cross over the continuous turning lane and entered the inside lane of travel for westbound traffic.  The Kia collided with a 2015 Jeep, driven by a 57-year-old male of Watertown, which was traveling westbound on 9th Avenue SE.

The collision caused the Jeep to roll onto its roof and slide on the roadway before coming to a stop in the roadway.  The Kia slid into the ditch on the north side of 9th Avenue SW before coming to a stop in a parking lot on the north side of 9th Avenue SW.  Neither the driver of the Jeep, nor the driver of the Kia were injured.

Both drivers reported wearing their seatbelts.

The 16-year-old male driver was cited for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway – SDCL 32-26-1.

The Watertown Police Department was assisted by the Codington County Sheriff’s Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
