FLOOD PREPARATIONS CONTINUE - OFFICIALS REQUEST SANDBAG VOLUNTEERS FOR MONDAY

On March 24, 2019, Mayor Sarah Caron made a declaration of a flood emergency for the City of Watertown and scheduled a special City Council meeting to be held later this evening. (Sunday)

The council is expected to authorize a cooperative agreement between the city and the United States Army Corps of Engineers for Flood Control. Additionally, the declaration authorizes City of Watertown staff to take all action necessary to respond to flooding emergencies.

Officials are still requesting help in filling Sandbags at the Codington County Extension building. Assistance is needed from 8:00am to 1:00pm and again from 1:00pm to 6:00pm. Volunteers are asked to contact the Emergency Operations Center at (605) 882-6272 or by emailing eoclaptop3@codco.org.

The City of Watertown continues to take measures to protect infrastructure. Motor vehicle drivers are advised to be patient and pay close attention to increased levels of truck traffic. Trucks hauling large equipment including excavators will be visible throughout the city.

It is anticipated that 10th Avenue Northwest will be closed sometime in the future as the water level on the Big Sioux River begins to rise.

The Emergency Operations Center will resume operations at 7am tomorrow morning.

It is anticipated that no further releases will be sent out today.
