[ARCHIVED] City of Watertown Flood Preparedness

WPD News Flash Image

Watertown City and County Officials along with Codington County Emergency

Management have begun preparations in anticipation for a possible flooding event this spring. At this point, residents should begin preparing for minor to moderate flooding in low lying areas.

Those residents who are in low-lying areas should consider purchasing flood insurance. Sewer backup and sump pump failure coverage should also be considered. Flood insurance generally takes 30 days from the date of purchase until it becomes effective, but there are exceptions. Contact an insurance agent for details.

All residents are encouraged to begin removing snow, as much as possible, from around houses and other structures.

Watertown is anticipating an additional 5 to 10 inches of snow this weekend with winds of up to 40 mph, so please prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Officials will continue to monitor the conditions, plan accordingly and will provide information to the public as the weather conditions change.
