[ARCHIVED] Utility Scam Update

The Watertown Police Department has been notified that there was another potential utility scam in Watertown.

The Watertown Police Department has been notified that there was another potential utility scam in Watertown. A person posing as a representative from Municipal Utilities was calling to collect payment or their utilities would be shut off.

Watertown Municipal Utilities has verified that this is a scam and would not ask for this type of information over the telephone. Residents are reminded that if ANYONE calls you over the telephone and asks for credit card information or to verify their payment account information they should refuse to give out this information and hang up.

If in question, ask for a call back number and call the business back verifying that it matches the listed number in the phone book.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam and have suffered a financial loss, you should contact your financial institution and the Watertown Police Department.

For further information contact Detective Nic Ahmann at (605) 882-6210.
