[ARCHIVED] Ordinance Reminder: Obstructing Gutters & Storm Drains

Watertown Street Department

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, AUGUST 22nd, 2018

Contact: Rob Beynon, Street Superintendent

The Watertown Street Department would like to remind residents that it is unlawful to deposit grass or leaves into streets/alleys, as per Ordinance 5.0306. Recently there have been issues with localized flooding due to grass/leaves clogging storm drains. This is a major concern as it can flood houses and property, thus, causing damage with costly repairs. Also, this poses a safety hazard for motorcycles, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, etc.

Any person violating this ordinance could be punished by a fine up to $200 or imprisonment up to 30 days, as per Ordinance 5.9901.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Watertown Street Department (605-882-6207) or Code Enforcement (605-753-3521).

Thank You,

Rob Beynon

Street Superintendent
