At 4:39pm Monday Aug. 13th Watertown Fire rescue was called out to a grass fire adjacent to 449th Ave and West Pelican Drive. WFR found an area approximately 50' by 100' of grass and brush burning in a slough. The fire was extinguished with in 15 min. WFR brush trucks and crew remained on scene for about 1 hour clearing hot spots and smoldering brush. The fire started around a compost pile. As a reminder, if you have a compost pile keep an area cleared around it, compost piles can have spontaneous combustion in the right conditions.
