[ARCHIVED] WFR Responds to two grass fires

Apparatus

On 5-21-18 at 4:11 pm, WFR got a 911 call stating that a control burn had gotten away from property owner.  WFR responded with two brush trucks to the area of 450th Avenue and 177th Street.  Upon arrival, crews found that less than one acre of land had burned.  It took crews approximately 10 minutes to extinguish fire.  Property was turned back over to land owner.


Then at approximately 7:50 pm, WFR was requested to the area of 456th Avenue and 164th Street for a ditch on fire.  Two brush truck were also dispatched to this location.  Upon arrival, crews found both ditches on fire.  Fire was controlled and extinguished within 15 minutes.  WFR was assisted by Codington County Sheriffs Deputies, Codington County Emergency Management, and South Dakota Highway Patrol.
