Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the Watertown Regional Landfill on Thursday April 19th at approximately 1159 pm. Upon arrival crews found a 100 x 100 foot fire had started on the surface of a garbage pile in the northeast corner of the lot. Fire crews initially deployed a hoseline to keep the fire from spreading further into the pile while landfill personnel used heavy equipment to bury the burning material. Watertown Fire Rescue was on scene with an Engine and Tender for approximately 2 1/2 hours. Watertown Fire Rescue would like to thank landfill personnel for their rapid actions in containing the fire.
