At approximately 215pm Friday March 23, Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a garage fire. While en route units were informed that there were two cars involved as well. When WFR units arrived on scene they found a 10 x 20 single stall garage and two cars that were fully involved. Strong winds were blowing flames onto the nearby house. Firefighters concentrated initial efforts on the house to prevent extension into the structure. Fire crews were able to stop the fire from spreading into the structure of the home, but it did receive heavy damage to the siding and exterior. The garage and cars were a total loss. There were occupants home at the time of the fire, and they were able to get out of the house safely. WFR was assisted on scene by WPD officers and Codington County Emergency Management. The Salvation Army and American Red Cross were contacted to assist the occupants of the residence. WFR crews were on scene for about two hours. There were no injuries reported during this incident.
