Watertown Fire Rescue responded at about 1030pm 24 Dec 2017 to a residence with an unususal smell. The homeowners had returned to their home and upon entry thought they smelled something different. WFR members entered the home with a multi-gas monitor. Nothing abnormal was noted. The home owner stated it could have been a "rotten egg" smell. It appears to have come from a basement drain that the trap had dried out. The home owner poured water in the drain. WFR was on scene for about 20 minutes.
WFR would like to remind everyone to monitor their sewer vent pipes during this cold snap, sometimes extreme cold temperatures can cause frosting of the pipe on the roof. Please remember to have a vehicle emergency kit while traveling this Holiday Season!
