Autopsy reports indicate Mr. William Keith Foster died as result of head injury sustained by a fall. Evidence recovered at Foster’s residence was consistent with Foster sustaining a fall and striking his head. Foster’s death has been ruled accidental. The Watertown Police Department was assisted by the Codington County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
The WPD is asking for assistance as Mr. Foster’s home was burglarized during the overnight hours of August 6th-7th. The person(s) entered the residence and stole numerous items out of the residence. The items include a large flat screen television, tools, air compressor and tobacco products.
A substantial cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved. You can remain anonymous. Please contact the Watertown Police Department at 605-882-6210 if you have any information.

On August 5th, 2017, Watertown Police responded to a request for a welfare check on a resident in the 400 block of 10th St SE.
Upon arriving on scene, Officers discovered a deceased adult male inside the residence. The male was identified as Mr. William Keith Foster, 62 years old. It was obvious that he had been deceased for some time. Officers investigating the scene wore protective clothing to protect themselves and the scene.
The Watertown Police Department investigates all unattended deaths. The death investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is pending. The public in not in any danger, this is a routine follow up to an unattended death.
