A Watertown Police Officer performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 3rd Avenue NW at 2:47am
Saturday morning after the officer observed the driver commit a traffic infraction.
A Watertown Police Officer performed a traffic stop in the 10 block of 3rd Avenue NW at 2:47am Saturday morning after the officer observed the driver commit a traffic infraction.
During the traffic stop the driver exhibited signs of impairment, so the officer administered field
sobriety tests to him.
After failing the sobriety tests the driver was informed that he was being placed under arrest. He then fled on foot running eastbound through an alley, in an attempt to elude the officers. During his attempt to flee he tripped and fell to the ground. He continued to resist the officer’s attempts to take him into custody. Ultimately, he was handcuffed and returned back to the scene a short time later.
Bono, a WPD drug canine was requested and responded to the scene. Bono indicated to the presence of illegal drugs inside the vehicle and a search was performed. Firearms and a scale were removed from the vehicle. A search of his person revealed Methamphetamine and a Methamphetamine Pipe.
The subject, identified as Shane K. Larsen, 27 of Watertown was transported to the Codington County Jail where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving Under Revocation, Obstructing an Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest.
