Watertown Fire Rescue received a 911 call for a vehicle fire in the vicinity of the playground in the North Ridge addition. Engine 3 responded.
While en route WPD advised that the vehicle was in the street at the corner of 16th Ave and 7th St. NE. Upon arrival fire fighters found that the fire had been extinguished by a passerby with a fire extinguisher. Smoke was still coming from an overheated alternator in which a water fire extinguisher was used to cool it down and eliminate any further flame ups.
WFR stayed on seen until the vehicle could be removed. Damage was contained to the engine compartment, hood and windshield. No estimate of damage was available at the time of this release.
