[ARCHIVED] WFR responds to accident involving a semi and utility pole

On 8/23/2016 at 1pm WFR responded to a semi versus utility pole accident at 312 9th Ave SE. On arrival WFR found a freight truck had passed under a low hanging power line causing the line to catch on the trailer. When the truck pulled ahead it pulled the utility pole down and broke the power lines. This caused a vast power outage across southeast Watertown affecting many homes, business, and street lights. The driver was able to safely pull away and get out of the truck. Municipal Utilities arrived on scene and they were able to quickly switch some relays to restore power to all of the affected area and isolate the outage to the building the pole was next to. No one was injured in this accident. WFR would like to remind everyone that all downed power lines should be considered live and they should stand well clear of the power lines as the energy can travel through the ground or any objects around the area. WFR would also like to remind driver to never drive over downed power lines.
