[ARCHIVED] Burning Power Pole Causes Power Outage

On Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at approximately 5:25pm, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the area of 4th Ave and 10th St SW for a power pole on fire.  The burning pole broke near the top causing the lines to tangle.  This incident caused power outages in areas of Watertown.  Watertown Fire Rescue and Watertown Police Department closed down 4th Ave SW from 10th St to Oakwood road to keep cars from passing near the damaged power lines.  Watertown Municipal Utilities arrived on scene and quickly went to work.  They extinguished the burning power pole and secured the power lines making the area safe again.  The roadway was shutdown for approximately one hour as crews worked to stabilize the incident.  Watertown Municipal Utilities crews continued to work on restoring the power to the city after WFR and WPD left the scene.
