Watertown Fire Rescue is conducting a trench rescue class on the Regional Training Grounds at Fire Station 2. The class is being taught by WFR firefighters and there are 11 other firefighters taking the class.
The firefighters are using a concrete trench prop to learn how to properly shore and extricate a victim, from there they will dig a live trench prop to work in. The simulations will better prepare WFR in the event a contractor working in a underground dirt trench experiences a emergency or trench collapse.
Watertown Fire Rescue is 1 of 4 fire departments that make up the South Dakota Task Force 1 Team. Task Force 1 responds to any Hazardous Materials, trench rescue, confined space rescue, high angle rescue, and structural collapse emergencies in the State of South Dakota.
