[ARCHIVED] Motor Vehicle Collision

On September 25, 2013 at 0805 hrs the Watertown Police Department responded to the
intersection of 3rd Avenue NW and 3rd St NW for a report of a motor vehicle collision
involving a Watertown School District bus.

Through the investigation it was discovered the Watertown School Bus was traveling
eastbound on 3rd Avenue NW and stopped for a stop sign at 3rd Avenue’s intersection
with 3rd St NW; while a 1998 Chevy Lumina, operated by a 17 year old male, was also
traveling eastbound on 3rd Avenue NW behind the school bus. The juvenile male driver
reported to law enforcement that he looked away and did not see the bus stopped at the
stop sign and he collided with the rear of the bus.

Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the collision location and assisted with the scene.
One of the student passengers on the school bus was released to their parents after
reporting a possible head injury. No other injuries were reported.

The juvenile male was issued a citation for Careless Driving and released on scene.

Careless Driving is a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a
$500 fine.
