[ARCHIVED] Watertown Park, Rec, and Forestry Department Announces Spring Boulevard Tree Planting Program

As spring approaches, the Watertown Park, Rec, and Forestry Department is gearing up for its annual boulevard tree planting initiative. The Forestry Department anticipates the arrival of 1”+ caliper trees during the week of April 15, offering residents the opportunity to enhance their neighborhoods with a variety of tree species.

"We're excited to announce the start of our spring boulevard tree planting program," said Matt Brandsrud, Parks and Forestry Superintendent. "Trees not only beautify our city but also provide other benefits, including cleaner air and shade."

Residents interested in participating in the program can contact the Fieldhouse at 605-882-6260 to be added to the list. The Forestry Department will work with homeowners to select tree species suitable for their boulevard. Each tree is available at a cost of $50.00, with payment accepted at the Fieldhouse after the trees have been planted.

"We encourage residents in developed neighborhoods to take advantage of this opportunity," added Brandsrud. “Not only will planting trees maintain a healthy and beautiful Watertown—it’s about making our community an even better place to live."

The number of trees planted each year is contingent upon the availability of resources, including the number of trees purchased and Forestry staff capacity. On average, the Forestry Department plants between 200-360 trees annually.

For more information or to request boulevard tree planting, please contact the Watertown Park, Rec, and Forestry Department at (605) 882-6260.
