Around 11:30 p.m. on January 30, Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a five-vehicle traffic accident approximately three miles south of Watertown on Interstate 29 southbound. Watertown Fire Rescue responded with Engine 4, Medic 3, and Medic 4. Two occupants were evaluated at the scene, and one patient was transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital Emergency Department. The accident occurred when a southbound vehicle collided with a stalled pickup, resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving three addition vehicles. Three of the vehicles sustained significant damage. Engine 4 remained on scene for approximately 30 minutes to remove debris from the roadway. Other responding agencies included the Codington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and Performance Towing.
