Upon arrival, crews located a crossover SUV that had left the roadway and rolled, coming to rest on its side. Firefighters found one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. Rescue personnel immediately stabilized the SUV to prevent further movement and began extrication using rescue tools—commonly referred to as the “Jaws of Life.” South Shore assisted with extrication and pulled a hoseline to protect the patient as the vehicle was smoking as well.
The patient was safely extricated after several minutes of coordinated effort and was transferred to a waiting ambulance for medical evaluation and transport. The patient’s condition is not being released at this time.
Watertown Fire Rescue responded with Engine 4 and Medic 4. The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Codington County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
