Watertown Fire Rescue Responds to Storm-Related Gas Line Break

Watertown, SD — On the morning of August 16, 2025, at approximately 8:00 AM, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a report of a gas leak caused by a fallen tree during a recent storm.

Upon arrival, fire crews quickly established a safety perimeter around the affected residence and evacuated nearby occupants as a precautionary measure. The gas leak was assessed and controlled with the help of Municipal Utilities who were able to plug the damaged gas line and prevent further release.

Watertown Fire Rescue reminds residents to report downed trees or suspected utility damage following severe weather and to always prioritize safety around potential gas leaks.
