[ARCHIVED] City of Watertown Celebrates Independence Day

The City of Watertown invites residents and visitors to join Independence Day festivities on July 3 and 4, with family-friendly events and South Dakota’s largest public fireworks show.

 THURSDAY, JULY 3: FAMILY FIREWORK LAUNCH NIGHT
 A safe and legal opportunity to launch personal fireworks will take place Thursday, July 3, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM in the Premier Softball Complex parking lot. This free event includes 20 launch stations available on a first-come, first-served basis. Safety glasses and water for disposal will be provided. The site is alcohol-free. Attendees should park in the Anza parking lot and bring their own fireworks.

FRIDAY, JULY 4: INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE
The annual Fourth of July Parade, hosted by the Fraternal Order of the Police, begins at 1:45 PM with a candy toss. The parade route starts at 4th Street and East Kemp Avenue, proceeding west to Watertown Stadium. Line-up begins at 11:00 AM near Mark’s Auto. No registration is required. FRIDAY, JULY 4: FIREWORKS SHOW AT ANZA SOCCER FIELD
Starting at 5:30 PM, the public is invited to Anza Soccer Field for an evening of celebration and fireworks, starting at dusk. Activities include inflatables for kids and a DJ. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Guests watching from their vehicle are encouraged to tune in to KXLG (99.1) for music that coincides with the fireworks. 

Parking is available at both the soccer field and the adjacent softball complex. No parking along 17th St. and 20th Ave. Please be patient with traffic. Backup date is July 5 in case of weather.

FIREWORKS ORDINANCE REMINDER
City ordinance prohibits launching fireworks within city limits without a permit.  CLICK HERE TO SEE THE FIREWORKS MAP for designated areas around the lake (no City parks/public property):

ALLOWED: Party Poppers, Snappers, Smoke Devices, Sparklers on wires or sticks, Toy Caps, Snakes, and Glow Worms.
NOT ALLOWED: (except in designated areas or permitted events): Firecrackers, Bottle Rockets, Roman Candles, and any fireworks you launch.

 Watertown Police Department will be enforcing fireworks ordinances to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.
