[ARCHIVED] Alcohol Compliance Checks by the Watertown Police Department

On March 19, 2025, the Watertown Police Department conducted routine alcohol compliance checks to ensure adherence to laws regulating the sale of alcohol products to individuals under 21.

The following businesses successfully passed the compliance checks:

  • American Legion
  • Deuces Casino
  • Duffy’s
  • Just 1 More
  • Sandy’s
  • VFW
  • Woody’s

However, the following businesses did not pass the compliance checks and were found to have sold alcohol products to individuals under 21 years of age:

  • Dempsey’s
  • Doc’s
  • Mavericks
  • Ringo’s
  • The Prop
  • Watertown Brewing Company
  • Willy’s

The clerks involved in these sales were issued citations for providing alcohol products to persons under 21 years old. The Watertown Police Department reminds all alcohol retailers that the legal age to purchase or possess alcoholic beverages in South Dakota is 21. Businesses and their employees play a crucial role in preventing underage drinking and its associated risks. This enforcement effort aligns with the department’s broader “Keep Watertown’s Streets Safe – Your Best Route Home is a Sober One” initiative.

By promoting responsible alcohol service, we aim to reduce underage drinking and its connection to impaired driving—ultimately helping to create a safer Watertown for everyone. Please note: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
