Watertown Fire Rescue responded to multiple calls on Sunday February 9th, 2025. The first call came in just after 4pm, on Boulder Ridge Drive, for a 500 gallon propane tank that was leaking liquid propane out of the top of the tank. On scene crews found a large residential propane tank with a mist of vaporized propane coming out of the service valve. Crews quickly determined that the fixed liquid level gauge was slightly open. Crews turned the valve off and contacted the company who services the tank to ensure there are no other issues with the tank.
The second call was a general fire alarm shortly after 6pm, at 152 13th St NE, Penn Park Apartments. On scene crews found that some smoke in the hallways due to overcooked food. WFR used a power fan to clean the hallway and apartment of smoke and were able to restore the fire alarm system to its ready state.
The third call came in at 9:45pm for a heater that started sparking and a scorched outlet. This call was at 3437 14th Ave SW. On scene crews spoke with the homeowner who had already turned the power off to the home. She stated that her portable electric heater had suddenly started sparking when she turned it on. The heater was unplugged and the owner was advised to discard it. Crews used a thermal camera to determine that the outlet and surrounding wall were safe from any heat or fire. The power was restored and the outlet was re-evaluated and remained operational.
