Shortly after 2:00pm on January 24th, Watertown Fire Rescue responded to Star Laundry on East Kemp for a report of smoke filling their occupancy. WFR responded with Battalion Chief 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, Medic 4, and Medic 3. Upon arriving on scene owners and family of Star Laundry directed WFR to the side entrance where they found the smoke filling the building. WFR prepared for quick fire attack while simultaneously clearing all apartments above the fire floor. The fire was found confined to an industrial dryer and was quickly extinguished. All occupants were determined to have been cleared from the structure and ventilation was began until smoke was cleared. WFR was assisted on scene by Watertown Municipal Utilities and the Watertown Police Department. WFR crews were on scene for about 2 hours. Thank you to all who assisted.
